For general information about tamgas refer to
Tamga Contents page. It is clear that many tribes split into fractions that joined different juz unions; in one union they may have been rated as a tribe, in another as a seok clan, and vice-versa, in that respect, for example, are interesting the traces of Alachins or Alats, Ch. Bo-ma 駁馬 / 驳马, Bila, and Boma-Di 駁馬氐, "Skewbald horses", who presently are among Turkey Oguzes, Kyrgyzes, and Altaians, and who in the 13th century were listed with Oguzes and Kyrgyzes. Tamgas also help in identification of the tribes that changed their appellation, or fractioned into separate tribes with new ethnonyms. Among other historically prominent tribes, Kyrgrzia incorporates Ases, called Azyk and Ak Teri in Kyrgrzstan; Tochars Tögars, called Tögörök in Kyrgrzstan; Toles/Tolis, called Töölös in Kyrgrzstan, Ch. To-li or Tu-li, Ch. 都烈, associated with eastern wing of the First Türkic Kaganate; Bayans/Bayundur, one of the constituent tribes in the first Hunnish state, whose descendents are called Kashka in Kyrgrzstan; and descendents of the Bechens/Badjanaks, matrimonial partners of Kangars, called Munduz in Kyrgrzstan. The tribe Kayi (aka Kai), Ch. Hi and Si, was subjugated by Maodun in 200 BC, it played a leading role in the history of Kimeks, Western Kumans, China, and Russia. |
