Samarkand Khanate principality in Sogdiana, about 200 miles east of Bukhara, has a checkered history, at times under vassalage to more powerful neighbors, at times an imperial capital. Sogdiana was occupied twice by China, in 657-676 and 677-c. 700 AD.
